Cookie Policy
Last updated: 10/02/2026
The short version
We use a small number of cookies to make the site work, remember your preferences, and understand in aggregate which pages are useful. We do not use cookies to build an advertising profile about you, and we do not sell what cookies tell us to anyone.
What a cookie actually is
A cookie is a small text file a site asks your browser to store so the site can recognize your browser next time. Related technologies—local storage, session storage, and pixels—do similar jobs in different ways. Everywhere this policy says “cookies,” treat it as covering those too.
The cookies we use
| Category | What it does and how long it lasts |
|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keeps the site working—security, load balancing, and remembering your cookie choices. These can’t be switched off without breaking the site. Session of 12 months. |
| Functionality | Remembers preferences such as display settings and your name, email, and website if you opt in when commenting (12 months). |
| Performance and caching | Helps pages load faster and reduces server load. Usually short-lived. |
| Analytics | Set by Google Site Kit / Analytics to count visits and show which content is read, in aggregate. Typically up to 24 months. |
| Affiliate attribution | Set by affiliate networks when you click an outbound product link, so a resulting purchase is credited to us. Set by the network, not by us; typically 24 hours to 30 days. |
| Third-party game cookies | Set by game providers when you load a game, to run the game, save progress, and serve any in-game advertising. Controlled by the provider, not by us. |
| Embedded media | Set by video and audio platforms when you play an embed. These appear only if you interact with embedded content. |
Exact cookie names and lifetimes are set by the services that create them and can change when those services update. The categories above describe what each one is for, which is the part that actually matters.
Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by other companies whose tools or content we use, not by us. We’ve named those services and their purposes in our Privacy Policy. We don’t control their cookies and can’t clear them on your behalf—but you can, using the browser controls below.
How to control or delete cookies
You can block or delete cookies at any time. Every major browser lets you do this under its privacy or site-data settings:
- Chrome — Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies / Delete browsing data
- Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari — Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data (macOS and iOS)
- Edge — Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies
- Any browser—a private or incognito window discards cookies when you close it
Blocking strictly necessary cookies will break parts of the site. Blocking the rest mostly means the site forgets your preferences, and where games save progress locally, that progress may be lost.
Consent and withdrawing it
Where applicable law requires consent for non-essential cookies, we ask before setting them, and you can change your mind at any time—through the cookie settings link on this site or by clearing cookies in your browser. Withdrawing consent doesn’t undo processing that already happened lawfully, but it stops it going forward.
Changes to this policy
As we add or swap tools, the cookies on this site change with them. When that happens, we update this page and the date at the top rather than leaving a stale list behind.
